From October 1, 2019, the vehicle tax, which must be paid by the car owner, and the vehicle purchase tax, which is charged during the purchase of a car, will change.
- The vehicle tax amount (divided by type) will change

* Cars over 2.501cc will be reduced by – ¥ 1,000.
* The tax on cars registered before September 30, 2019 will not be changed!
- The vehicle purchase tax (jidousha shutoku-zei) will be changed to “environmental performance discount (kankyo seinou-wari)”
When purchasing a car (including used cars), the tax will be decided according to the energy efficiency. The more economical the car is, the lower the tax.
