Immigration counters will be busy during the New Year holidays (December 2025 to January 2026)

Every year around the New Year’s holiday period, many foreign nationals file various residency applications at the Immigration Bureau, causing the immigration residence inspection counters to become extremely busy.

Applications will not be accepted from December 27, 2025 to January 4, 2026, due to the New Year’s holiday. Therefore, applications are expected to be especially busy on December 26, 2025, and January 5, 2026, just before and after these holidays.

If you are going to the Immigration Bureau over the New Year’s holiday period, please use public transportation whenever possible.

If your residence status and expiration date are not affected, we recommend filing your residence inspection application outside of the New Year’s period, as this will shorten your wait time.
