Guidance for “Japanese for Work” Course (Free Japanese language course)

The Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) will carry out Practical Japanese Useful for Work 2019 Training Course for Promoting Stable Employment of Foreign Residents from the end of May 2019.

This course is the beginner’s course (Level 1). The contents of the course are for those who are studying Japanese for the first time, those who can not speak Japanese, and for those who can not read and write hiragana and katakana. Applications can be made at the nearest Hello Work.

Eligible Person

  • Those who aim for stable employment
  • Those who are 16 years of age or older whose status of residence is “Spouse of Japanese, etc.”, “Permanent Resident”, “Spouse of Permanent Resident, etc.” and “Long Term Resident”

※The opening of the course may be canceled if the class have few applicants.
※ The class level is planned and may be subject to change.

新しい元号「令和」（２０１９年５月１日から）及び２０１９年限定の休日の変更について

The Crown Prince will ascend the throne on May 1, 2019. From that day onwards, the “Heisei” era will end and the new “Reiwa” era will begin. The name “Reiwa” is taken from the “Man’yoshu” which is the oldest anthology of classical Japanese “waka” poetry.

*What is Gengo

A gengo is the name given to the era like “Showa” or “Heisei”. In Japan, the “Taika” era in the year 645 was the first named era. Currently, the era changes when a new emperor succeeds the throne.

<Changes to holidays due to the Emperor’s abdication and the prince’s ascension to the throne>

In accordance with the Emperor’s abdication and the prince’s ascension to the throne, May 1 and October 22 will be one-time public holidays in 2019. April 30 and May 2, 2019 will also be one-time public holidays.

The annual Emperor’s Birthday holiday will move from December 23 to February 23.
