This year’s deadline for tax payments is May 31st (Wednesday).

Every citizen owning a vehicle must pay this tax once a year. And the money collected is used for education, improving health and welfare services, transportation infrastructure maintenance, unemployment benefits, disaster preparedness and many other important government initiatives.

Every owner of a vehicle has already received an envelope containing a picture of a red car (see the model below).

Automobile Tax Payments can be made through the bank and also through others facilities including convenience stores. You can also use a credit card to pay your tax (over the internet).

If the deadline expires, a “late payment fee” will be charged along with the automobile tax.

And for those who do not pay even after receiveing the late payment notice, a penalty determined by law will be applied, and material assets may be seized such as vehicles, salary, among others.

Make the payment until May 31st.

Your Tax Payment receipt is required when you take your vehicle for an inspection (shaken) so please keep it in a safe place.

Automobile Tax is from prefecture, which falls upon the vehicle owner, annually on April 1st.

The notification for Automobile Tax Payment is sent to the address registered on the Vehicle Inspection Certificate (shakensho), annually, on early May. For example, even in the case of transfer or undo the vehicle (haisha), if the transfer registration or elimination (massho) have not been made at the Transport branch office during the month of March, please, have in mind that from May the previous owner will receive the notification for tax collection.

Furthermore, from now, in the case of change of address due to graduation, new job or change of city, please, carry out the procedure of changing the address registered on the Vehicle Inspection Certificate at the Transport branch office, without fail.

It is important to know that there is the need to carry out the number changing (of license plates) to the one of Mie Prefecture, in the case of moving from another prefecture to Mie. Therefore, please, make the procedure.

– Other scam is when they pretend to be employees from city hall, saying “there is a refund of medical treatment” and force the victims to deposit high amount in cash through ATMs.
★ These kind of calls are scams! Be careful for not be mislead.

In Japan, as of 1957, no case of dog rabies has been detected, but in many regions in the world the incidence of this disease is huge. When someone develops the disease, the most common symptoms are paralysis, mental confusion among others related to nervous system. The possibility of death due to this disease is almost 100% in humans and dogs. Every year, about 55.000 human deaths related to rabies are reported in the world.

To avoid the spreading of this disease in the country, Japan has determined by law the registration and vaccination of all pet dogs.

Every year, rabies vaccination period is taken between April and June. Rabies vaccination can be received during April in group vaccination, carried out by the government of each prefecture, or in a pet clinic. (In the case of pet clinics, the vaccination is available the whole year.)

Every year pet owners must follow standards established by the preventive vaccination law against rabies.

Pet registration

Rabies vaccination

Attach the registration and vaccination card in the pet’s collar

* For more details, contact the help desk related to the matter, or at Mie-ken Kenko Fukushi-bu Shokuhin Anzen-ka Seikatsu Eisei- Dobustu Aigo-han (only in Japanese).

*Registration and vaccination must be covered by the pet owner.
