The number of foreign nationals in Mie Prefecture is increasing and thus the issues in the medical field are also raising. Because there are differences both in idioms and healthcare, foreign patients are not confident when talk about issues related to medical institutions and, in addition to it, medical institutions face troubles related to foreign patients’ treatment.

In order to minimize such existing situations, a workshop focusing the practical learning of knowledge, techniques, ethics and others will be held, aiming to train interpreters in the medical field to help during communication between health professionals and foreign patients.

1    Languages to be approached

Portuguese, Spanish, Filipino and Chinese

2    Participants need to be according to the following criteria

・Advanced conversation in Japanese and in one of the idioms mentioned above (people whose Japanese is not their native language must have level 2 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test or above it. People whose native language is not one of the idioms mentioned above must have an equivalent level)

  • People able to work as healthcare interpreters within Mie Prefecture during weekdays
  • People able to participate in the 5 days training.
  • People able to register as healthcare interpreters at Mie International Exchange Foundation after training completion.

3     Capacity

60 people (about 15 for each idiom) *The first people requesting the training will be recruited

4      Training Dates (same for each idiom)

1st time      June 25 (Sunday) 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

2nd time     July 23 (Sunday) 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

3rd time      August 27 (Sunday) 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

4th time      November 24 (Sunday) 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

5th time      middle October (date not yet defined)    2 hours period

* The break time will be between noon to 1 p.m.

5       Location

1st time      Training room A at UST Plaza (Tsu-shi, Hadokoro-cho, 700 – UST TSU 4th floor)

2nd to 4th times Meeting rooms  1・2・3・4  at UST Plaza (estimate)

5th time      Medical Institutions or Healthcare Centers in the cities of Kuwana, Yokkaichi, Suzuka, Tsu and Matsusaka.

6       Content

Lectures (technical terms, basic knowledge in medical field, others), translation practices, workshops, practical training

7        Registration fee is free

8        How to participate

Fill in the registration form and request the application by e-mail, FAX, mail or phone until June 22 (Thursday).

“Bousai Mie.jp” Homepage has been updated, in 5 languages in addition to Japanese

日本語及び5か国語による災害情報の提供「防災みえ.jp」のホームページをリニューアルしました

“Bousai Mie.jp” is Mie Prefecture’s official homepage publishing information in Japanese and other 5 foreign languages (English, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish) about prevention  in the event of natural disasters and useful information in case of natural disasters.

With this updating, the ” page related to emergency” now presents information on the opening of shelters, information on damage through maps and others. Even if you do not know the name of the region you live, it will be possible to recognize the locations visually. Furthermore, from May, information in real time about tsunami, earthquakes, warnings and weather alerts will be published on social media (Twitter).

If a natural disaster occurs, it is important to take accurate decisions and always check precise information to reduce damages.
