It is essential that each individual raises their awareness of road safety, respects traffic rules, takes care of their own health with adequate rest and sufficient hydration, and takes all precautions to avoid causing or suffering accidents. Period From Friday, July 11, 2025, to Sunday, July 20, 2025 – total of 10 days Campaign Focuses (1) Preventing accidents involving children and the elderly Maintain full concentration while driving and anticipate potential hazards. Drive with consideration for children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Elderly people should understand how changes in physical functions affect driving and adjust their driving style according to the weather and their health status. Slow down around schools and school routes, making sure there are no pedestrians. Always be alert for children who may suddenly enter the street. When teaching children about traffic rules, clearly explain what is dangerous and why. (2) Reinforce pedestrian priority and practice safe crossing When approaching a pedestrian crossing with people nearby, slow down so that you can stop immediately, and stop to allow them to cross safely. Pedestrians should always cross at a pedestrian crossing, if there is one nearby. Before crossing, stop, look both ways, and then proceed. Even while crossing, continue to check both sides. Since some drivers do not notice pedestrians, signal your intention to cross with a hand gesture and wait for the vehicle to stop before crossing. (3) Correct use of seat belts and child car seats Seat belts and child car seats protect your life and the lives of your loved ones. Use seat belts in all vehicle seats. For children under 6 years old, the use of a child car seat is mandatory. For children over 6 years old but less than 150 cm tall, the use of a child car seat or booster seat is recommended. (4) Elimination of driving under the influence of alcohol and other serious offenses Driving under the influence of alcohol is a crime and involves serious responsibilities. A hangover is also considered driving under the influence of alcohol. If you feel that the alcohol has not yet been completely eliminated, do not drive. Offering alcoholic beverages to someone who is going to drive, lending a vehicle or accompanying drunk drivers are also subject to severe penalties. Driving aggressively (such as chasing or cutting off) or using a cell phone while driving is strictly prohibited. (5) Mandatory use of helmets and compliance with the rules when using bicycles or electric scooters All cyclists must wear a helmet that is appropriate for riding. Protect your life by wearing a helmet. Follow traffic rules, drive responsibly and avoid accidents. Electric scooters that meet legal standards are classified as “special light motor vehicles” and do not require a driver’s license, but children under 16 years of age are not allowed to ride them. Scooters that do not meet the standards are classified as mopeds or motorcycles, and require a driver’s license. Before using an electric scooter, please read the traffic rules carefully and use it safely. Information poster available here. The risk of death in accidents caused by wrong-way driving is about 15 times higher than in other types of accidents on expressways. To protect your life – and the lives of others – it is essential to learn preventive measures and what to do in case of an emergency. Everyone is at risk of driving the wrong way If you have mistakenly passed the exit junction: Never reverse or attempt to make a U-turn on the freeway. Continue driving to the next junction and exit the freeway there. When exiting, use the manual toll lane and report the incident to the toll booth attendant. The toll booth attendant will guide you so that you can safely return to the correct junction. If you have mistakenly entered the freeway: Do not attempt to turn around and return to the normal road. Use the intercom at the toll booth ticket terminal to report the situation. Follow the attendant’s instructions to return to the local road safely. Avoid wrong-way accidents with attention and collective responsibility. Avoid wrong-way accidents with attention and collective responsibility If you see a vehicle traveling the wrong way: When you hear or see information about a vehicle traveling the wrong way, reduce your speed and keep a safe distance from other vehicles. If you identify a car coming from the front, stay alert and try to avoid the collision safely. Ask a passenger to call the police (number 110) or use the emergency telephone number at the rest areas (SA/PA). You can also report it directly to the toll booth staff. If you realize that you are traveling the wrong way: If the central barrier is on your left and the signs are facing away from you, you are probably going the wrong way. Stop immediately in a safe place and turn on your hazard lights. Get out of the car and move to a safe place off the road, such as behind a guardrail. Call the police (110) or use the emergency number to ask for help. Where wrong-way driving occurs most About 60% of wrong-way driving incidents occur at highway entrances and exits, rest areas (SA/PA) and junctions (JCT). Pay attention to signs and signals – this simple check can prevent a fatal accident. When entering the highway or leaving a rest area, make a habit of always checking the signs and signals!
