During the summer months, the heat can lead to decreased concentration, and a high number of traffic accidents are expected.
In addition to obeying traffic rules, please also pay attention to your physical condition by getting enough rest and staying hydrated to prevent traffic accidents and avoid being involved in them.
- Period
10 days from July 11th (Sat) to July 20th (Mon), 2026.
- Focus of the Campaign
(1) Preventing traffic accidents involving children and the elderly
- Elderly people should understand the impact of changes in physical function on driving and strive to drive according to the weather and their physical condition.
- On school routes and residential roads, in addition to obeying traffic rules, let’s prevent traffic accidents by being aware that “people have priority on the road.”
- Be careful of children suddenly running into the road.
- When teaching children traffic rules, be sure to teach them what is dangerous and how.
(2) Eradicating Serious and Dangerous Driving Practices such as Drunk Driving and Using Smartphones While Driving
- Drunk driving is absolutely prohibited.
- Drunk driving carries severe penalties, and being caught for drunk driving or causing an accident could result in losing your job or family.
- Let’s create an environment where drunk driving is discouraged throughout society.
- Using a smartphone while driving (so-called “using a smartphone while driving”) is an extremely dangerous act that can lead to serious traffic accidents, so please stop doing it at all costs.
- Please understand the differences in traffic rules between your home country and other countries, and strive for safe driving.
(3) Ensuring Pedestrian Priority at Crosswalks
- If there are pedestrians near a crosswalk, slow down so you can stop immediately. When pedestrians are crossing the road, always stop and allow them to cross safely.
- Pedestrians should always use crosswalks if there is one nearby.
- Also, when crossing, stop once, check for safety to the left and right, and cross only after confirming it is safe.
- Some drivers do not notice pedestrians.
Pedestrians should signal to drivers by slightly raising their hand before crossing, and only cross after the vehicle has stopped.
(4) Ensuring the correct use of seat belts and child safety seats
- Seat belts and child safety seats protect your life and the lives of your loved ones.
- When transporting children under 6 years old, ensure they are properly secured in a child safety seat to prevent traffic accidents.
- Even for children 6 years and older, if they are unable to properly wear a seat belt due to their size or other circumstances (e.g., small size), use a child safety seat or booster seat.
(5) Ensuring understanding and compliance with traffic rules regarding bicycles, etc., and promoting helmet use
- Bicycles are vehicles that anyone can easily ride without a driver’s license, but as a “vehicle,” they must abide by traffic rules.
- From April 1st, a traffic violation notification system (the so-called “blue ticket”) has been introduced for certain traffic violations committed by bicycle users aged 16 and over.
Please be aware that using smartphones or earphones while cycling, and riding with a passenger are traffic violations, and you should absolutely refrain from driving in a way that endangers yourself or others. - Drunk cycling is also severely punished, just like driving a car, so please absolutely refrain from it.
- To protect your life, everyone who uses a bicycle should wear a helmet.
- Electric kick scooters that meet the standards are classified as “specific small motorized bicycles” and do not require a driver’s license, but traffic rules such as the requirement to attach a license plate and to subscribe to automobile liability insurance are stipulated.
- Before using an electric kick scooter, please be sure to check the traffic rules and use it safely.
- Even when using a pedal-assisted electric motorcycle (moped) without using the motor and only using pedals, it is considered driving a general motorized bicycle or car, and a driver’s license is required, so please be careful.
