The videos can be viewed on the prefecture’s website (in Japanese only). Each and every one of us should respect traffic rules and strive to avoid accidents. Mie Prefecture Traffic Safety History (four traffic safety awareness videos) Eradication of drunk driving (uploaded on November 22, 2024) “Why was I fined back then?” After finishing a project, I felt a sense of accomplishment and wanted to celebrate. ‘It was just one drink, I’ll be fine!’ That’s what I thought, but then I started to feel sleepy… Don’t drink and drive thinking that everything is fine. The cost is too high and it will be too late to regret it. Drivers should always keep in mind, “I must never drink and drive!”, and people around them should never allow anyone to drive drunk. Let’s all work together to achieve a Mie Prefecture with zero drunk driving. The Mie Prefecture Zero Drunk Driving Ordinance requires drunk drivers to undergo a medical examination to check for alcohol dependence. Cruzamento de faixas de pedestres (upload em 12 de dezembro de 2024) Pedestrian Crossing (uploaded on December 12, 2024) ‘It was supposed to be a great ride’. On a holiday for the first time in a long time, I was driving with an open mind and couldn’t help but look at the scenery outside. Looking ahead, I saw a pedestrian crossing without traffic lights. Article 38 of the Road Traffic Act stipulates that pedestrians have priority at pedestrian crossings. When approaching a pedestrian crossing without traffic lights, drivers must proceed at a speed that allows them to stop immediately before the crossing, except when there are no pedestrians visibly attempting to cross, and must pause before the crossing if there are pedestrians crossing or attempting to cross. Elderly pedestrians (uploaded January 3, 2025) ‘I’m sure I’ll be fine.’ On my way home from my daily run, I thought, “I don’t worry about traffic accidents.” I knew it was against the rules, but I took the usual shortcut… The reality is that some pedestrians and cyclists who have been killed or injured in traffic accidents have broken the law, such as crossing outside of crosswalks or failing to check for safety. Make sure you obey the traffic rules and avoid any danger to yourself, other pedestrians, and motorists. Bicycle helmets (uploaded January 22, 2025) ‘It’s a hassle to wear a helmet, even if I’m on a bike’ Helmets are such a hassle that everyone else doesn’t wear it too… or so I thought. On my usual route to school, I saw a silver car in front of me… Since April 2023, it has been mandatory for all generations to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. Data shows that the fatality rate for those who do not wear a helmet is approximately twice that of those who do. To protect your own life, please wear a bicycle helmet.
