Notice regarding the “Life and Work Guide” useful for those living in Japan

The Japan Immigration Services Agency (出入国在留管理庁) has prepared the “Life and Work Guide,” a resource that gathers useful information so that foreigners can live and work safely and peacefully in Japan.

The guide is available in 19 languages, including simplified Japanese (やさしい日本語).

Examples of content from the Life and Work Guide

  • Chapter 2: Procedures for marriage and divorce in Japan
  • Chapter 3: Employment contract, maternity/paternity leave, unemployment insurance
  • Chapter 4: Procedures when a baby is born in Japan, one-time birth and raising benefit
  • Chapter 5: Japanese education system
  • Chapter 7: Retirement (pension), long-term care insurance, childcare, disability assistance and social assistance (seikatsu hogo)
  • Chapter 8: Residential tax, car tax, property tax
  • Chapter 9: What to do in case of a traffic accident
  • Chapter 12: Rules and customs of daily life, such as waste separation and disposal

This “Life and Work Guide” contains even more detailed information than that presented in the “Life Guidance” videos produced by the same agency
