Applications Open for Mie Prefecture’s On-Demand Online Japanese Course for Foreign Residents

Mie Prefecture will offer an on-demand Japanese language course for foreign residents who live in areas where Japanese language classes are not available, or who have difficulty attending in-person classes due to work, childcare, or other circumstances.

The course allows participants to study Japanese at a time that suits them using a computer or smartphone.

1. Course Name

Mie Prefecture On-Demand Online Japanese Language Course

2. Study Period

September 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027.

※ After participation is confirmed, a study ID will be issued, allowing participants to begin the course.

3. Course Content

  • Participants can study content suited to their Japanese language level, from beginner to advanced.
  • Study materials are available for:
    • Japanese used in everyday life;
    • Japanese used at work;
    • preparation for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
  • The materials include explanations in several languages, including Japanese, English, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Filipino, Chinese, and Indonesian.
  • During the study period, an online class with useful content for learning Japanese will be held approximately once a month.

※ Participation in these online classes is optional.

4. Study Method

On-demand learning via the Internet.

  • A smartphone, tablet, or computer can be used.
  • Participants can freely choose when and where they study.

5. Number of Participants

Approximately 50 people.

※ If there are a large number of applications, priority may be given to people who live in areas without local Japanese language classes or who have difficulty attending classes due to work, childcare, or other circumstances.

※ Applications are still being accepted. Please apply as soon as possible.

6. Participation Fee

Free of charge.

※ Participants are responsible for Internet connection and data usage costs.

7. Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be 16 years of age or older and live in Mie Prefecture.
  • Be interested in learning Japanese.
  • Have Internet access and be able to use a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
