A message from the Mie Prefectural Police

2014/01/07 Tuesday Highlights, Security

There was a robbery homicide involving a female junior high school student in Mie this summer.

Female citizens and residents should keep the following in mind.

5 Personal Safety Tips for Women

policia-mie1 –  Avoid walking alone at night

→Get a family member to pick you up if you feel unsafe. Be sure that your family is taking any and all measures to ensure that  everyone is safe.

2 –  Avoid using mobile phones or listening to music while walking

→Using mobile phones or listening to music decreases your awareness of your surroundings, and may keep you from noticing suspicious individuals.

3 – Lock car doors, even when you are operating or riding in a car.

→ This will prevent someone from forcing their way into your car.

4 –  Be aware of your surroundings when boarding elevators

→ Look around you before boarding, and avoid boarding if you and a male that you don’t know will be the only passengers.

5 – Be aware of your surroundings when entering your house.

→Look around you before entering, and be sure to lock your entryway door and windows.

If you sense danger or see a suspicious looking individual, go immediately to your nearest police station or police box (koban) or dial 110.
