Mie’s Global Citizens 2012

Who lives in Mie Prefecture and where are they from? This event not only introduces the cultures of Mie Prefecture’s international residents but also those citizens of Mie who have crossed the sea to travel the globe in order to bring our community closer together! Featuring a concert of folk and children’s songs, photo exhibition, stalls selling items from around the world and more! Join us on December 9th at the Mie Prefecture Citizen’s Exchange Centre.

10:30-12:00        Mie’s Bridges to the World: stories about Mie citizens who crossed the seas and traveled the world.

12:00-13:00         Folk and Children Song Concert

People from around the world introduce songs from their homelands.

13:30-15:00         Global Citizens Talk Show

Japan’s culture and customs are discussed by Mie residents who hail from a variety of countries.

10:00-16:00         NPO and NGO Exhibition and Stall Corner

Goods from different countries will be on sale along with a photograph panel display.

10:00-15:30         Traditional Make-up and Fashion Experience

Try on different outfits and traditional make-up techniques from around the world. You can also have your photo to take home.

10:00-15:30         Make your own Original Matryoshka Russian Doll

Traditional New Year Decoration Making Workshop

2012年12月15日(土)三重県立博物館「正月飾りづくり体験」が開催されます

In this workshop, participants will create traditional wreath-like New Year decorations by affixing decorative plants to twisted rice straw grown in Mie Prefecture. Each participant will get to take home their own creations, which will measure 20cm in diameter. There will also be a short talk from the curator of the Mie Prefectural Museum.

Date and Time:        Saturday, December 15, 2012 1:30PM~4:00PM

Location:                  Mie Prefectural Museum, Lecture Room

Participants must be of elementary school age or above. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Participant limit:            20 people(if more than 20 people register, participants will be determined by lottery)

Participation fee:            200円(Fee covers material costs, and will be collected on the day of the workshop)

What to wear:                   This workshop will involve sitting on the floor and handling rice straw, so please wear clothing that you will not mind getting dirty. All participants should also wear long pants.

What to bring:                  House shoes/slippers or a pair of clean shoes (museum slippers are not suitable for this workshop, as you will be using your feet to hold down the rice straw)

When to register:     Thursday, November 15, 2012 to Thursday, December 6, 2012

Successful registrants will be informed on Friday, December 7, 2012.

How to register:              Fill out a registration card with the name, address, and age of each applicant, the phone number of the group representative, and the number of times each applicant has attended the workshop (maximum of 3 applicants per card). Return the card via post to the following address:
