Forecasts indicate that typhoon’s impact on Mie Prefecture will be most severe on Wednesday, July 20. For your safety, please observe the following: Clear verandas and yards of objects in order to avoid property/bodily damage due to items being picked up and thrown about by the wind. Close all windows and storm doors, and leave them closed while at work. Due to the intensity of the typhoon, power lines and gas lines may be damaged, causing blackouts and interruption in gas services in certain areas. Make sure that you have ample water and food that requires no heat to prepare. Water services will also be interrupted in the event of a blackout. Filling a bathtub is one way to secure an emergency source of water. Using umbrellas during a typhoon is ineffective and often dangerous. Inexpensive ponchos and other rain gear are sold at 100 yen shops and are a much more effective and safe way of staying dry during a typhoon. Riding a bicycle during a typhoon can be extremely dangerous due to sudden gusts of wind. Please avoid riding bicycles if at all possible and refrain from riding bicycles while holding an open umbrella. Areas close to rivers and the ocean may experience flash floods and high waves due to the typhoon. Residents living in these areas may have to evacuate. Please confirm the location of your evacuation area and confirm evacuation information regularly.
