However, there have also been tragic incidents on the water that have claimed the lives of several people. Last year, there were 26 incidents on the water that resulted in the deaths of 17 people. There have already been 15 incidents this year as of July. Please keep the following in mind when enjoying yourself by the water Children ・Children may accidentally enter deep or dangerous waters while playing in the ocean. ・Parents or guardians need to accompany children playing in the ocean. ・If you see children playing in lakes or other dangerous bodies of water, warn them that the area is dangerous and tell them to play elsewhere. When surf fishing and partaking in marine sports ・Please wear a lifejacket when surf fishing or jet skiing. It may save your life in the event of sudden large waves and jet ski accidents. ・Do not jet ski in areas where people swim. Remember, inattentiveness can lead to serious accidents on the water. Be aware that a fun day at the beach can quickly turn dangerous, and take steps to protect yourself from accidents at the beach. Help us stop water related accidents by being safe! The Mie Elephant measures 8 meters in length and 4 meters in height. The Mie Elephant lived throughout the Japanese islands about 4.3 million to 3 million years ago. This is Japan’s first ever showcase of the complete reconstructed fossil skeleton of a Mie Elephant at MieMu. Explore the life of the Mie Elephant, its evolution and how it was discovered at MieMu!
