Statement by Governor of Mie regarding visa facilitation for Brazilians

ブラジル人に対する査証の要件緩和決定への三重県知事コメント

2014/08/11 Monday Announcements, Highlights

While visiting Brazil in August last year, I attended meetings with many nikkeis, such as representatives from Kenjinkai Association, and received strong requests related to the exemption of the conditions for the short-term visa application for Brazilians.

After this visit, along with people related to the subject, we act in different ways carrying out related proposals for Japanese government authorities. Today, we obtained the first step with the decision of the ‘multi visa’ introduction, which has been announced in the Japanese-Brazilian Joint Statement during the visit of Prime Minister Abe to Brazil.

It was a good news I received in less than 1 year after my visit to Brazil, and the desire of the representatives of Kenjinkai done, making me very satisfied.

I sincerely thank you all who helped in the government request activities.

This time it was the decision on the multi visa introduction, but I hope it takes effect as soon as possible and then we can move to the visa exemption. I hope that this decision contributes even more to the exchange between the brother states of Mie and São Paulo, and that improves the exchange between Brazil and Japan.

Preventing Accidents this Summer

2014/08/11 Monday Announcements, Highlights

夏の交通事故防止について(県警からのお願い)

There have been 52 motor vehicle accident related deaths in Mie Prefecture this year as of July 6th, 3 more than occurred during the same period last year.

car safetyThe data on motor vehicle accident related deaths that occurred before the end of June showed the following characteristics:

  • Approximately half of the fatalities were elderly
  • Fatal motor vehicle accidents involving drunk driving show no signs of decline
  • More than half of the fatalities involved people who had not fastened their seatbelts.

Vacation season means more people on the road due to the summer holidays and people taking advantage of extra leisure time. A large number of motor vehicle accidents are expected to occur due to heat-related fatigue people feeling less inhibited during the summer holidays.

policiaTherefore, we would like everyone to keep the following in mind.

  • Please drive particularly carefully out of consideration for children and the elderly.
  • The driver of a motor vehicle and passengers in all seats should wear seatbelts, and children under the age of 6 should use child seats.
  • Bicyclists are treated similarly to motor vehicles under the law. Bicyclists must obey all traffic signals and stop signs. Additional riders, holding an umbrella while riding, and using a mobile phone while riding are all strictly prohibited.
  • Do not operate a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol. This rule applies to bicycles, as well. Do not pressure someone who will need to drive later to drink, and do not lend your vehicle to someone who has been drinking.

Please take this opportunity to speak to your family and coworkers about traffic safety in order to prevent accidents and keep one another safe on the roads.
