[2019-H31] Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates

平成31年度 高等学校卒業程度認定試験

If a person who has not graduated from high school took the Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates test and passes it, they will be eligible to take the entrance exams for university, junior college, and vocational school. Also, test takers that pass this test are certified as having knowledge equivalent or higher to a high school graduate, and they may cite this result on resumes and when applying a qualification tests. Those who will be 16 years of age or older by March 31, 2020 can take this certification exam. However, the final academic record does not become a high school graduate

First period: From April 8 (Monday) to May 15 (Wednesday)

Second period: From July 19 (Friday) to September 12 (Thursday)

    Please use the envelope attached to the test guidebook and mail it by registered mail to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

※Applications postmarked from 1st period May 15th (Thursday) will be accepted; 2nd period until September 12th (Thursday).

A new status of residence “Specified Skilled Worker” starts on April 1st, 2019

新しい在留資格「特定技能」が2019年4月1日からスタートします

From April 1st, 2019, in order to cope with serious labor shortage situations, a new status of residence “Specified Skilled Worker” was created as a system to accept foreigners who have a certain level of expertise and skills and can be an immediate asset . There are two types of “Specified Skilled Worker”, No. 1 and No. 2. This article reports on No. 1, since No. 2 is scheduled to start from year 2021.

<Main features of Specified Skilled Worker No.1>

  1. Description of business: 14 specific industries.
    * Please see p. 3 here for details.
  2. Period of stay: Up to 5 years in total
    * It is necessary to renew the qualification every one year, six months or four months.
  3. Skill level: Will be confirmed by examination, etc.
    * People who have completed Technical Intern Training Program No. 2 are exempted.
  4. Level of Japanese Language Proficiency: The Japanese language proficiency needed to daily live and work will be checked by examination, etc.
    * People who have completed Technical Intern Training Program No. 2 are exempted.
  5. Age: 18 years old and above
  6. Bringing a family: basically, not possible
