 2016 Kenmin no Hi

The Citizen’s Day in Mie (Kenmin no Hi) is the commemorative day of Mie Prefecture foundation, on April 18, 1876 (Meiji 9), by joinijng the two ancient prefectures of Annotsu (later named Mie-ken) and Watarai, after the clans’ abolition law and the creation of the prefectures in 1871 (Meiji 4). And, in 1976 (Showa 51), as the centenarian commemoration of the prefecture has established as government, the date of April 18 has been determined as Citizen’s Day in Mie.

And, on this April 18, the Citizen’s Day in Mie will celebrate140 years of Mie Prefecture’s foundation. To celebrate this day, a special event will be held on April 16 on the following theme:

“Find out since the history to the wonders of Mie! The past, the present and the future of Mie”

Commemorative Event on 140 years of Mie Prefecture’s Foundation

To celebrate the 140 years of Mie Prefecture’s foundation and in order to the citizens are able to rediscover the wonders of Mie, after a lecture led by an expert on local history, a discussion panel on sources that bring a mix of tradtition and innovation will be carried out. Topics on the future of the prefecture will be discussed.  The vice-president of a global company, as well as the curator of MieMu and students from high school tasked by the future of Mie Prefecture will join this panel.

Admission free in public facilities

Along with the commemorative event of Citizen’s Day, the permanent exhibition of MieMu (Mie Prefectural Museum) is admission free, as well as other public facilities in Mie (provincial, municipal, among others) will allow free admission entrance (others will offer a price discount)

Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates in 2016

平成28年度高等学校卒業程度認定試験について

The Certificate for Students Achieving the Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates is a test offered twice a year to individuals who did not complete their senior high school education and cannot apply to university. The test assesses whether or not an individual has the knowledge equivalent or higher to that of a senior high school graduate.
Individuals can take the test multiple times and combine the best scores from each section to form an overall passing score. This means that individuals taking this test do not need to pass all sections in one sitting to pass the overall tests.
Individuals that pass this test are able to take entrance exams for university, junior college and vocational school. Additionally, test takers that pass this test are certified as having knowledge equivalent or higher to a high school graduate, and they may cite this result on resumes and when applying qualifications tests.
Registration for this test is open to anyone who will be age 16 or above as of March, 31 2017. Full-time senior high school students may also take this test. Students who have already been accepted at a university may not take this exam.
Those who wish to register for the exam should reference the information provided below.

1-Testing information available for applicants during:
     1st period: from April 5(Tuesday) to May , 10, 2016(Tuesday)
     2nd period: from July, 21(Thursday) to September, 15, 2016 (Thursday)

2-How to obtain test guidebook
(1)  Directly from prefectural offices:
– Citizen Liaison Office(1st floor of the Mie Prefectural Government Office Building)
– Mie Prefectural Board of Education Office Social Education and Cultural Property Conservation Division(7th floor of the Mie Prefectural Government Office Building)
– Prefectural Office Branches in each region(to find the Prefectural Office Branch closest to you, please see「受験案内配布場所一覧」)

(2) Via post
Send a request to the address below. When requesting information by post, include a self-addressed (name, address and postal code) and stamped (250 yen) number 2 (角型2号) envelope to request 1 unit of test guidebook.

How to apply
Using the return envelope included in your test information materials, mail your application to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)

Application period
 1st period: from April, 20(Tuesday) to May, 10, 2016 (Tuesday)
※Applications postmarked on May 10 rd will be accepted)

 2nd period: from September, 1 (Thursday) to September, 15, 2016 (Thursday)
※Applications postmarked on September 15 th will be accepted)

Test date
 1st period: August, 3(Wednesday) and August, 4, 2016 (Thursday)

 2nd period: November, 5(Saturday) and November,6, 2016 (Sunday)

   1st period: Mie-ken Tsu Chosha (Tsu-shi, Sakura Bashi 3-446-34)

   2nd period: Mie Kencho – kodo (Tsu-shi, Komei-cho 13 Banchi)
