Special High School Admissions Screening for Non-Japanese Students

alunos(1)Eligibility Criteria (for non-Japanese applicants, etc.)

Non-Japanese individuals living with their guardians in Mie or with plans to live in Mie who have been residing in Japan for no more than 6 months by April 1, 2014.

(3)Number of Applications Accepted

As a general rule, each prefectural high school will accept up to 5 non-Japanese and/or returnee students through this screening. However, Iino High School’s English Communication Department will be accepting up to 10 non-Japanese and/or returnee students. The aforementioned figures reflect the total number of applications accepted during both first and second semester admissions. The maximum capacity of each respective school will be considered during the admissions process, and no school will exceed its student quota.

【First semester admissions】

Evaluation methods will vary by school and may include: interviews, evaluation of self-expression, essays, and/or written tests.

【Second semester admissions】

(for non-Japanese students, etc.)

Essay and Interview

Evaluation by essay and interview will be conducted in the applicant’s native language, English, or Japanese. The decision of whether to admit an applicant will rest with the principal of the school. A written test may also be administered at the discretion of the school’s principal.

(6)Additional Screening Procedures

In addition to the evaluation methods addressed in section(5), each school will also require that applicants submit a record of their junior high school grades in order to determine suitability and fit.

For non-Japanese applicants applying for night classes

Adjustment of screening procedures for non-Japanese applicants during second semester admissions and additional admissions periods will be carried out at the discretion of each school’s principal.

Festivals in Kumano [Owase’s Ya-ya Matsuri]

熊野古道センター(尾鷲市)で、2月9日(日)まで開催しています

Special Exhibit Series on Festivals in Kumano: Owase’s Ya-ya Matsuri

This exhibits features Owase’s Ya-ya Matsuri, a 5-day festival held by Owase Shrine each year starting February 1st.
This unique festival has almost 300 years of history and features a variety of events like the Ya-ya Neri (a ritual brawl), the Korikaki (ritual purification of the whole body in frigid ocean waters), and a ritual archery demonstration. This exhibit will show various aspects of the Ya-ya Matsuri from a variety of perspectives.

《Concurrent events》
Yanohama Kagura
 The Society for the Preservation of Yanohama Yagura will be performing a traditional Japanese lion dance. The humorous dance involves a Kotengu (a mythological beast with bird and human-like features) deviously prodding a sleeping lion.

Lecture: The Ya-Ya Matsuri Today
 According to documents dated to 1735, a Shinto shrine was established in the Owase area in 1661 and local worshippers have continued to hold festivals related to the shrine since its founding. Mr. Moriaki Kato, a priest of Owase Shrine, will give a lecture about this festival, which has over 300 years of history and is known in modern times as the Ya-Ya Matsuri.
